Small four-wheeled autonomous delivery robot startup Starship Technologies just closed a 42 million Series B round, led by NordicNinja and Taavet plus Sten. The company is working on self-driving-based unmanned delivery services in cities and closed campuses, and Series A investors, represented by TDK Ventures and Goodyear, have also opted for additional funding. After the Series B financing, Starship will continue to expand its business coverage (including operations in Europe and the United States) and find some new directions.
The company has raised 202 million in funding, but no specific valuation has been disclosed at this stage. For reference, PitchBook, which completed a 4,700 perfect Series A round in 2019, is valued at around 110 million.
Starship's unmanned delivery fleet includes 1,700 robots that can complete about 1,000 deliveries a day, and the company claims to be quite close to L4 autonomous driving. Since its establishment, the Starship fleet has completed over 3 million deliveries.
Starship partners include brick-and-mortar grocery stores such as UK Co-op, Tesco, Budgens, and California Save Mart. There are also recent collaborations with universities such as AT in North Carolina, SMU and South Dakota State University.
